Outdoor Events in Duluth Minnesota

Many Minnesotans are feeling the winter blues, with snow up to our knees and the extreme negative degrees, when is a break coming? From the looks of it, not any time soon…..realistically. While inside with a warm cocoa, why not plan a trip to a mesmerizing town with a beautiful view? Perhaps, all you need is to see the biggest fresh water lake in the world… Lake Superior in Duluth Minnesota! While this close knit town has many events indoor and out, all times of the year, I would like to focus on the summer months, with not a snowflake in sight, fresh air, green grass and flowing water all around. Below is a list of some annual outdoor events to enjoy in Duluth Minnesota’s summer months:

Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival

A Lake Superior highlight is the Dragon Boat Festival, one of the largest in North America, which is held the last weekend of August. Multiple teams of 22 people, all working in unison, to a beat, in one large, beautify decorated canoe to get to the finish line. The races start in the morning at 8am, August 23rd, on the Superior bay. If you are out on the bay earlier, to get a good view or to participate, they host a pancake breakfast, starting at 7am. There are also other events to enjoy, with a music, kids activities, food and beverages, this is truly an event the whole family can enjoy. And with little cost, parking is free and so are the views.

Sidewalk Days Festival

If you prefer enjoying a city view, Duluth also has an event for you. The Duluth Sidewalk Days Festival might be your cup of tea, take a stroll at your own pace downtown and enjoy the afternoon. The festival is July 9th threw the 14th, over 50 different venders are joining ,for a vast experience of community and shopping. While walking you will be surrounded by delicious foods, thirst quenching drinks, eye catching merchandise and harmonious music. Traffic will be directed away as the streets between Lake Avenue and 4th Avenue West are close at 8am and the fun begins at 9am. Come join the festivities!

Grandma’s Marathon

Need a little more speed in your day and some friendly competition? Duluth has that too, along with the view. Pick up the pace by entering Grandma’s Marathon, this event is on June 21st, at the crack of dawn 7:45 but I imagine you would want arrive earlier. The starting line is located outside Two Harbors and the run finishes at Duluth’s Canal Park. Line up requires that the runners projecting the shortest time be at the front, while walkers and less intense participants start farther back. The course will take you on a north shore view of the Superior. Push your personal limit while enjoying the outdoors all in Duluth Minnesota.
People from around Minnesota and farther away come to see Lake Superior and the beauty of Duluth, whether on two feet, running, walking or in a large canoe, the sights are breathtaking! Summer will be here shortly, plan for it so it doesn’t escape your grasp.
