Are the Jumbotron Screens High Definition?

High quality images on the LED Jumbotron

It is a question we get asked all the time, but it is not necessarily a simple yes or no answer. As long as the screen is built in the correct aspect ratio, we can display HD content and make it look great. However, with a 5mm panel for example, the screen would need to be more than 21 feet wide and 13 feet tall before it had enough pixels to be classified as “HD.” High Definition typically comes in two different formats, 720 and 1080 format. You may have heard a lot about 4k recently, but 720 and 1080 content is still the most widely available and commonly used.

This is the pixel configuration for a common HD image:
For true 720 High Definition, the screen will be at least 1280 pixels wide by 720 pixels tall, with a total pixel count of 921,600.
For true 1080 High Definition, the screen will be at least 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall, with a total pixel count of 2,073,600.

While the image may not always be true HD by definition with a screen this large, our Jumbotrons provide great image quality. It can get confusing, but if you have any questions about HD images, or if you need to know what size to create your image or video, please contact us and we will be glad to help.
