“Weather” or Not to Use a Mobile Jumbotron

Using Mobile vs. Modular Screens in Bad Weather

Although we own both modular and mobile video screens, each one has their time and place at each individual event. For any readers not familiar with the differences of these types of screens, let us provide a quick explanation.

Mobile video screens:  These are pre-assembled screens that live inside an enclosed trailer, and once on site are deployed by use of a built-in hydraulic mast that lifts the screen skyward and through the roof of the trailer. These screens are most often used outdoors, however, they can also be used indoors at large venues. They have on-board generators for power, or have the option to be plugged into on-site shore power, either from another generator or an electrical panel.

Modular video screens:  These video walls are often compared to Lego blocks. They are trucked to an event in road cases and then assembled and programmed on-site. These screens are more often used indoors, as typically mobile screens are not an option, however, we can and often do use them outdoors as well.

There are pros and cons to both types of screen. Right now however, we will focus on outdoor events and the weather. When safety is an issue (and even when isn’t it) we like the flexibility the mobile screens provide related to bad weather. Most large events monitor the weather diligently. It’s a huge advantage that our mobile screens lower into the trailer three-quarters of the way in about 15 seconds, lowering the wind load/danger factor from 100% down to about 20%. Plus in about five minutes we can have the screen completely down and tucked away. This ensures the show will go on once the severe weather passes with no damage to your guests or the screen.

This only applies to high winds and lightning. Your typical rain showers and snow storms are not a problem as both mobile and modular screens are made to operate in wet conditions.  However, with the ability to get the mobile jumbotrons down so quickly, this added safety feature can provide peace of mind for you and your guests.
